The first call
A good locksmith stays calm and asks clear questions: where you are, whether you are safe, what kind of door or vehicle is involved and whether keys are locked inside or lost. If you feel unsafe, call 911 first.
Clear pricing, no surprises
You should hear a price or a realistic range before a technician sets off, including any after-hours charge. On arrival, the technician confirms the price before starting. If something changes, they should tell you before doing more.
When the technician arrives
Expect a marked vehicle and ID. The technician will ask for proof that you live at the address or own the vehicle, then work the lock open, usually without drilling.
Before they leave
Check that the lock turns and latches properly. If your keys are lost rather than locked inside, consider rekeying straight away so they cannot be used. Pay by card and keep the receipt.
