- Transponder keys carry a chip the car's immobilizer checks before the engine will start.
- Remote keys and fobs lock and unlock the doors by signal.
- Flip keys fold the blade into the fob and usually contain a transponder chip too.

How it works
The locksmith cuts the blade if there is one, then uses programming equipment connected to the vehicle to pair the new key or fob. What is possible on site depends on the make, model and year.
